Cotton, Dye, Thread 1x10 ft This project was aimed on creating a piece that was made by multiple panels. I knew right away i wanted to create panels using textiles. I actually began this by dying fabric with natural dyes. I used turmeric, red onion skins, and avacados to dye white cotton. It turned out really successful, but i wasn't too excited about the color that came out. I then decided that it wasn't very important content wise to use natural dyes so i bought some and created some mixes. I felt that they were very delicate so i thought they needed to be in an airy space, and decided they needed to be installed and hung. I enjoyed the way the colors all played with each other, so i connected each one creating space in a corner. I played with the ceiling and floor and thought it all interplayed well. Paper, pastels, wood, cardboard, newspaper, canvas, spray paint, foam insulation, tape, house paint 31/2x4ft This project was a transformation drawing consisting in 6 transformations. It began as a white sheet of paper and transformed into a sculpture that can exist in any particular space, so a sculpture holding more of the use off a painting than an installation. I really enjoyed this project, because it was all about process. I never got bored of it, or frustrated, which really kept me dedicated in the studio. I was really finding the process of transforming it a great way to grow in my work.

Chicken wire and yarn Space approx. 3x5ft This project was aimed at using some sort of method in drawing on an object. I chose chicken wire because of how dimensional it is. I enjoy the space it creates, as well as the freedom to manipulate its form. Like my other work, i am constantly using process as a means of content in my work. Process is always an important aspect in my work, as it has to be an enjoyable one for me to be able to commit to the process in the studio. I found the process of creating marks with yarn to be very important, as I find importance in textile materials.  Mary Grisey Rebecca Ward Richard Tuttle

This week in the studio I worked on my large scale loom. I have had thoughts about leaving it and starting a new one, but I felt like i needed to take it further. I added a gray/blue color this week and its starting to create depth and form. I enjoy all the of the relationships that I am making through color, composition, and material. I hope to finish this loom up within the next few weeks, and start on another one. I have also been thinking of ways to create my looms into standing 3D objects, to act as a sculpture, possibly by leaving my tapestries on the actual loom.  An artist i have been looking into is Jo Deeley. Jo creates sculptural objects out of textiles. She finds a lot of her content in her process as well as explores the use of traditional methods with contemporary mediums.  The reading this week is extremely insightful. For me, I make art because I find that it is the best way to express me as a person, as one that holds a creative mind. An artist is not one that has a certain artistic skill set, but its someone who can translate the physicality of society, the world, their life, etc. into their work they make. I think an artist’s role in society is to take their creative mind and make something good come out of it. I don’t necessarily feel any sort of connection with any art movements in the past, or currently, actually I try to stay away from things that have been controversial, I find them to be overdone and if it doesn’t actually have anything to do with my life than I don’t find it necessary to use that as a means of giving my art “meaning”. I think my work definitely is concerned with myself and the way that I live my life from day to day, its very much about the process of what I am making in terms of the process of how I live my life. This week in the studio was extremely successful. Im getting really excited about my new loom, i think because its so big. I spent a lot of hours re-building my frame and then putting every string back into a slot, and then tightening each string, turns out i probably could have started over and saved more time, but since i had already weaved on it i didn't want to lose my progress. I added a large amount more and really had a lot of fun with it this week.  Izziyana Suhaimi is a fiber artist whose work focuses on the juxtaposition of traditional art verses todays digital art. Although my work does not focus on digital art specifically, my art does concern the juxtaposition between traditional and contemporary art. My work is taken from a skill that i could do as a young inexperienced child, to now, pushing it further into finding why i do it.

This week in the studio was interesting. It began last week when i had just spent several hours working on my new 4x4 foot ended in snapping and breaking. I had it all warped and then it just gave out. I guess thats just life. My professors were nice enough to fix it for me so i could continue weaving on it. This week i was having a really rough time weaving on it, actually had to re-do a lot of what i have done last week when it lost its tension. I then realized it just wasn't tight enough anymore because it had warped so much, so i went through about every warped string and re-tied them tighter. After that it was really tight and i was able to weave a good portion but now i am realizing i need to reframe it so that it is really secure. So, i didn't get as much done this week as i wish i could have but it was definitely a learning process. I have realized how much prep my medium takes.
